Rose Hips on the Tree of Life

P1300929.JPG “If the rose is burnt, it bears better flowers; for then, they say, the roses are improved.” This phoenix-like characteristic of the rose may be why the Persians traditionally depicted the tree of life as a rose tree on their carpets and tapestries. Rose hips can contain between 1500-2500 grams of Vitamin C per 100 grams of weight. Oranges contain around 53 mgs per 100 grams of weight, so head for the hills to collect these vitamin C powerhouses gifts from the bush. more

  1. This is beautiful! Thanks for sharing this thought. We gather champes (rosehips) in mid to late fall along the banks of the Rio Culebra at Rancho Dos Acequias in Colorado. They grow here in deep thickets below cottonwoods; deep ancient brambles. The recipe for champes jams or jellies is passed down from one generation to the next. These are cherished heirloom memories of place, sweetened by the scent of rosehips steeping in mountain spring water. A prayer.
